The short version
PinyinKit has no accounts and no sign-up. The Chinese text you paste is converted inside your browser and is never sent to us. We don't sell personal information.
Text you convert
All conversion happens on your device using JavaScript. The text you type or paste is not uploaded to our servers or shared with anyone.
If you use Share, your text is put into the link after the # sign. Browsers
don't send this part of a link to web servers, so we never receive it. Anyone you give the link to
can read the text, so share it only with people you want to see it.
The stroke order tool downloads drawing data for each character you look up from our own server, in the same way a page loads an image. These requests are handled like any other page request, described below, and are never linked to you.
What is stored in your browser
To save you from re-entering things, PinyinKit uses your browser's local storage to remember your last text and your settings (such as tone marks vs. tone numbers). This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for pinyinkit.com.
Information collected when you visit
Like most websites, our servers automatically receive some basic technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. This is needed to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We only look at it in aggregate, for example to see how many people visit, and never use it to identify you.
Advertising and cookies
To keep PinyinKit free, we may show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

Children
PinyinKit is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you. Since we don't keep accounts or store the text you convert, we usually hold no personal information about you. For questions or requests, email [email protected].
