Why we built it
When you're learning Chinese, you constantly run into characters you can't pronounce yet. Most converters check one character at a time and get common words wrong, like reading 银行 (bank) as yín xíng instead of yín háng. PinyinKit looks at whole words, shows which characters have more than one reading, and lets you fix anything it gets wrong.
What makes it different
- Word-aware pronunciation for characters with more than one reading.
- Spoken tone changes for 一 and 不, highlighted so you learn them.
- Tone marks or tone numbers, with options for ü and the neutral tone.
- Copy for Anki so pinyin shows above each character on your flashcards.
- Private by design: your text is converted in your browser and never uploaded.
What's next
Alongside the converter, you can now watch and practice stroke order for over 9,000 characters. More tools are on the way. Have an idea or found a wrong pronunciation? Let us know.
